We are reminded by many commentators that 2020 is going to be hard, complicated and demanding year. As the Church of Christ we can make a difference by giving hope, faith and love to our brothers and sisters, inspiring society with the absolute integrity and trustworthiness of God, of his Son and our Redeemer and the work of his Holy Spirit.
But can the world rely on the faithfulness of God if we, his ambassadors, do not convince them of our own reliability, honesty, kindness and integrity?
Do you trust God completely? So much so that you live according to your faith, to the point that the Lord is able to trust you too? When Jesus Christ returns, it will be the most wonderful of mercies to hear him saying to us appreciatively: "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
God is always faithful, and we should learn to take him at his Word.
We ought to trust him unconditionally. We need to understand the absolute integrity of God and his character to never be anything but faithful to his Word, his promises and to his people. The Lord expects all who serve him to have integrity and always be faithful to his Word and to his people too.
People are often unpredictable and unreliable, to the extent that we rather expect people to break their promises, than keep it. Some feel they are doing nothing wrong when they cannot be counted upon when they promised to make a difference.
The minister and elders made solemn ordination vows or promises. Do we live and serve accordingly?
All the leaders of all committees and ministries made similar promises to the Lord and to the church.
When we were confirmed we made vows or promises to God to be faithful in worship, in participating in Holy Communion, in prayer, in service and in maintaining the church of God.
Can God still count on our vows?
God desires our faithfulness.
Our God desires that our integrity and trustworthiness will inspire the coming of his Kingdom, even in a demanding year.
All significant relationships are built on the foundation of trust, faith and faithfulness, in other words on trust born out of trustworthiness. Our relationships with the Lord and with his people are incomprehensible without faith and faithfulness - trustworthiness.
Proverbs says that “a good friend is a faithful friend, one who loves at all times" (Proverbs 17:17)
The apostle Paul listed some of the most important qualities of a follower of Christ: "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23)
