Healing and the recovery
process can be a tough journey. Whether you are going through physical, mental,
emotional – or even spiritual – weakness, it is a painful mission.
Depending on the grace of
God in every aspect of “getting better and stronger” is, for the believer, the
only option. Yet, what a glorious option
it is!
Paul shared his dealings
with weakness in 2 Corinthians 12: 7 – 10.
He wrote: Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I
was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times
I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My
grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore,
I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power
may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in
insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak,
then I am strong.
The Lord told Paul that despite
his “thorn in the flesh”, God’s grace is sufficient for him. Weaknesses change
us into being completely dependent on the mercy, love, grace and sustenance of
our Lord.
How does God’s grace make
the difference in our survival pilgrimage?
1, Grace meets our needs because
it expresses God’s acceptance and pleasure in us. When we receive his grace, we
enjoy the status of favour and approval in God’s eyes. Grace means that God
loves us and is favourably inclined towards us; we hold on to the Lord’s promise
of care, always.
2. Grace meets our needs
because it is available all the time. Since grace is given freely to us in
Jesus, it is not taken away when we stumble.
When we come to God by faith, through the blood of Jesus his grace is
ever ready to meet and minister to our insufficiencies and struggles.
3. Grace meets our needs,
because it is the very strength of God made available to us. God’s grace and
mercy is neither weakness nor the tolerance of impurity. Instead, it is the power of God to grant us what
we lack in every circumstance.
To trust in God, believing
in his grace, enables us to become true vessels of his love, and as such, of
his power again!
Healing and recovery
received by the grace of God, is true regaining of God’s plan and purpose for
me. When I confess my dependence on God
to the Lord, his merciful, strengthening and loving grace grant me real help
within my vulnerable situation.
“My
grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness”, says
our Lord.
